This evening we dedicate our show to Andrew Latimer, the guitar virtuoso best known for his work with Camel, the well know progressive rock group that incorporated jazz and a bit of pop into later releases.  You've heard Mirage and Harbor of Tears here on FreeForm in the past; tonight we spotlight his recent Bandcamp releases on which he plays all of the instruments except where noted.

Andrew Latimer (born 17 May 1949^[1][2]) is an English musician and composer. He is a founding member of the progressive rock band Camel and the only member who has been with them since their formation in 1971. Although he is best known as a guitarist and singer, Latimer is also a flautist and keyboardist.^[3 

Progressive rock guitarists such as Steve Rothery (Marillion),^[7] Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth),^[8] Bryan Josh (Mostly Autumn)^[9] and Bruce Soord (The Pineapple Thief)^[10] cite Latimer as one of their primary influences. Musician and producer Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree is a known fan of Camel and has stated, "Andy Latimer means very much for me."^[11]

Latimer received a Lifetime Achievement award at the 2014 Progressive Music Awards.^[12]

08 September 2015 Colin Bass: "At Wild End" and ambient drone music from Cousin Silas

At Wild End Is the produce of a well co-ordinated pre-order campaign by Camel Bass man Colin Bass. Without doubt a gifted musician and producer Colin bass has a rich musical CV well earned and well deserved. At Wild End finds Colin taking a step back from his Camel persona and firmly entrenching himself in his own style and diverse leanings. Anyone who has had the good fortune to see Colin playing live with Camel will know what a talented multi instrumentalist he is as such a seasoned musician and writer. From 1998’s An Outcast Of The Island through several live and studio albums Mr Bass seems to have consolidated his varying musical influences and intriguing choice of subject matter for his song writing skills to  make At Wild End very pleasing to listen to and very easy on the ear.

29 June 2010: Il Trono Dei Ricord)i (s/t); Camel - Harbour of Tears

 Il Trono Dei Ricordi (the Throne of Memories) are an Italian progressive rock band of the 1990s, who released an album of songs setting the words of William Blake. They were influenced by Genesis, Marillion and ELP.^[1] The album sets extensive passages from Blake's prophetic books, including Visions of the Daughters of Albion and the Book of Urizen. It also sets The Little Black Boy from Songs of Innocence and Experience.

Our classic progressive album this week is Camel's brilliant Harbour of Tears.   Harbour of Tears is a Studio Concept Album by English progressive rock band Camel. It tells the story of an Irish family who is painfully separated as their young ones depart to the United States to seek a better future.  and vocalist and guitarist Andrew Latimer learned that the last sight of Ireland his grandmother's family would have seen was Cóbh Harbour, a deep water port that witnessed the fracturing of hundreds upon thousands of families as their sons and daughters departed towards America. Thus the album was titled as the common alias of the port, 'Harbour of Tears'.
