29 November 2016: James Logan Cole and Hashshashin
James Logan Cole, a singer/songwriter from Kodiak, Alaska (and a student of mine when I taught English at Kodiak High School), grew up
performing in a multitude of musical ensembles including Jazz, Funk,
Classic Rock and his high school drum line. Upon graduation, like his
father, he joined the United States Coast Guard to serve his country.
Although Logan was raised in Kodiak, Alaska, most of his family resides
in Mississippi, where his "southern-style" mentality and influence
originates from. With a vocal sound that some have compared to artists
such as Lee Brice, Darius Rucker and Brett Eldredge, Logan's warm tone
and soulful lyrics are a welcome respite from today's political and
economic climate. Logan is also a multi-instrumentalist performing every
track on his collections. From the far corners of this great country,
Logan has extended his voice to many fans, friends and music lovers.
Logan has performed his original music solo and with his band Saltwater Heelers throughout the Hawaiian Islands, the U.S. west coast and Alaska. He has performed at venues such as Hard Rock Cafe Waikiki and Seattle, Room 5 Lounge Los Angeles, Santa Rosa's Harmony Festival (2011) and opened for major recording artists such as John Cruz, Paula Fuga and Jack Johnson. This exposure prompted his current sponsorship by worldwide instrument manufacturer and distributer Cole Clark Guitars of Melbourne, Australia. You can find James Logan Cole's albums "Reflections" (2008) and "Where I Belong" (2011) on iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody and many more. He returns to Kodiak for two nights this Thursday and Friday at The Rendezvous - get there early for a good seat!

01 Nov 2016: KMXT Pledge Drive Edition + Ian Boddy New Release: "As Above So Below" (DiN51)
The second half of the show will feature DiN51 | 2016 | Limited to 500 copies on CD & 250 copies on vinyl
Release date 18th November 2016
Ian Boddy, DiN label boss, has never been a musician to rest on his laurels. After the totally analogue, experimental “Tone Science” (DiN49) he now moves onto fresh sonic pastures with his new solo album “As Above So Below”. Boddy has always liked to play around with genres, mixing and matching styles to suit his current frame of mind. On “As Above So Below” he effortlessly combines ambient, classical & electronic music into a seamless, intoxicating sonic landscape. Boddy has been heavily involved in composing library music for many years that feature in TV, films and documentaries and he brings this filmic quality to bear on this suite of six tracks.
The title track opens procedures with a great slab of slowly evolving orchestral chords that rise up out of a cold, ethereal atmosphere. Based on Prelude No.1 in C Major by J. S. Bach this awe inspiring opening piece sets the scene for what is to follow. Arpeggiating piano tones, deep Moog basses, ethereal string clusters & analogue sequencers all vie for attention in the following five tracks. The latter are at times light and playful with interlocking layers on tracks such as “Quantum Of Memory” and “The Thaumaturge” whereas an all together darker vibe is created on the deep bass pulses of the brooding track “Shrine”. The final track “One Day” finishes the album off in an emotional manner with rising string melodies above haunting felt piano arpeggios before finally disappearing back into the eerie atmosphere that opened the album.
As usual this album will be released in the elegant slimline digipak CD package that followers of DiN will be familiar with. However there will also be a limited edition 180g vinyl album package as well which will include a download code. Both formats will feature a stunning, minimal image by photographic artist Wendy Carroll. Once again DiN have produced a quality release in highly collectable formats for all lovers of modern, ambient electronica.

18 October 2016: Tales from Topographic Oceans - the Steven Wilson remix edition
Tales from Topographic Oceans is the sixth studio album from the English rock band Yes, released as a double album on 7 December 1973 by Atlantic Records. It is a concept album based on singer Jon Anderson's interpretation of a footnote in Autobiography of a Yogi (1946) by Paramahansa Yogananda that describes four bodies of Hindu texts, collectively named the shastras. After he pitched the idea to guitarist Steve Howe, the two wrote the themes and instrumentation of four, side long tracks based on each text. Keyboardist Rick Wakeman disagreed with the album's concept and the musical direction of the album, and left the group after its tour.
Following its release, Tales from Topographic Oceans received a mixed critical reception and became a symbol of progressive rock excess with its detailed concept and lengthy songs. However it was a commercial success, becoming the first UK album to qualify for Gold certification based on pre-orders alone. It topped the UK Album Chart for two weeks and reached number 6 in the US, where it reached Gold certification for over 500,000 copies sold. Yes toured the album from November 1973 to April 1974 with a set that featured the album performed in its entirety. The album was reissued in 1994 and 2003; the latter with bonus tracks. An edition with new stereo and 5.1 surround sound mixes by Steven Wilson was released in October 2016.

04 October 2016: Mary Fahl & Marillion
From the Dark Side of the Moon is a 2011 album released by singer/songwriter Mary Fahl.[1] The album is a song-by-song "re-imagining" of Pink Floyd's classic 1973 album The Dark Side of the Moon.[1]
Fuck Everyone and Run (F E A R) is Marillion's 18th studio album, released on 23 September 2016.[4]
On 8 April, Marillion revealed the album's cover art and announced the title of the album as Fuck Everyone and Run (F E A R).[7] Singer Steve Hogarth commented on the title, saying,
On 19 September, the band informed customers that had pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition that a breakdown of a piece of machinery at the manufacturing plant caused a delay of several weeks in the delivery of the box set. As compensation, these customers received an additional CD, and early access to the download of the album on the same day.[10]
All songs written by Marillion.
Personnel
Production
As of September 2006 Fahl completed the recording of Mary Fahl: From the Dark Side of the Moon, produced by Mark Doyle and David Werner and mixed by Bob Clearmountain. Doyle also provided nearly all of the instrumentation.[1] The album remained unreleased for several years,[2] and Fahl released it independently on May 10, 2011.[3]Reception
Publication Nippertown referred to the album as "mindblowing,"[3] while The Morton Report called it "brilliant" and "a worthy re-interpretation not to be missed."[4]Track listing

Promotion
As with many of their recent albums, Marillion used crowdfunding to finance this album, this time using PledgeMusic. The campaign offered various options of pre-ordering the album—called only by the code name M18 at that time—including CD, download only, and a limited Ultimate Edition box, containing, among others, a Blu-ray Disc containing a making-of-the-album film.[5][6] Originally the album was slated to be released on 1 May 2016, but was later postponed to 9 September, and again to 23 September. On 8 April, Marillion revealed the album's cover art and announced the title of the album as Fuck Everyone and Run (F E A R).[7] Singer Steve Hogarth commented on the title, saying,
”This title is adopted not in anger or with any intention to shock. It is adopted and sung (in the song "New Kings”) tenderly, in sadness and resignation inspired by an England, and a world, which increasingly functions on an “Every man for himself” philosophy. I won’t bore you with examples, they’re all over the newspapers every day. There’s a sense of foreboding that permeates much of this record. I have a feeling that we’re approaching some kind of sea-change in the world – an irreversible political, financial, humanitarian and environmental storm. I hope that I’m wrong. I hope that my FEAR of what “seems” to be approaching is just that, and not FEAR of what “is” actually about to happen.”[8]On 7 July, customers of the PledgeMusic campaign received access to download the song suite The New Kings, and an edited version of the song was made available to the public on Marillion's YouTube channel.[9]

20 September 2016: Spleen Arcana and Anderson/Stolt
Spleen Arcana is the project of French songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Julien Gaullier.
Formed in 2008, Spleen Arcana is an eclectic mix of symphonic prog, space rock and art rock drenched in melancholic and contemplative moods.
Pairing up with drummer David Perron, and with the help of Marie Guillaumet on backing vocals, Julien Gaullier self-released Spleen Arcana's first album, The Field Where She Died in 2009.
This raw but sincere debut album was the result of a long, passionate process and countless hours of home studio explorations. With a limited print run of 500 copies, yet without any label nor promotion, The Field Where She Died is now nearly sold out thanks to the word of mouth.
Recorded in the same handcrafted way and with the same team, Spleen Arcana's second album, The Light Beyond The Shades, was released in February 2014.

07 June 2016: California Guitar Trio w/ Tony Levin and Brand X
In celebration of Tony Levin's 70th birthday, tonight we begin our show with this live recording of his collaboration with the California Guitar Trio from the year 2000.
California Guitar Trio (CGT) is a band of three guitar players founded in 1991. The three—Paul Richards of Salt Lake City, Utah, Bert Lams of Affligem, Belgium, and Hideyo Moriya of Tokyo, Japan—met at a 1987 Guitar Craft course, in which Robert Fripp instructed them in the New Standard Tuning (NST). After completing several of Fripp's Guitar Craft courses, the three toured as part of Robert Fripp and The League of Crafty Guitarists.[1]
Continuing their collaboration then in Los Angeles, they founded The California Guitar Trio in 1991. They continue to play in the New Standard Tuning.[1] Their performances and recordings include original compositions, surf covers, and classical re-workings of classical music. Their influences include European classical music, rock, blues, jazz, world music, and surf music.
Anthony Frederick "Tony" Levin, (born June 6, 1946), is an American musician and composer, specializing in electric bass, Chapman Stick and upright bass. He also sings and plays synthesizer.
Levin is best known[1] for his work with progressive rock pioneers King Crimson and Peter Gabriel. He was also a member of instrumental-prog rock/jazz fusion group Liquid Tension Experiment; the King Crimson-related bands Bruford Levin Upper Extremities, ProjeKct One and ProjeKct Four; and currently leads his own band, Stick Men.
Brand X was a jazz fusion band active between 1975–1980 and 1992–1999. Noted members included John Goodsall (guitar),[1] Percy Jones (bass), Robin Lumley (keyboards), Kenwood Dennard (drums) and Phil Collins (drums). Goodsall and Jones were the sole constant members throughout the band's existence.

24 May 2016 Black Moth Super Rainbow & Robert Rich
The first half of tonight's program will feature Black Moth Super Rainbow and their 2012 crowd-funded release, Cobra Juicy.
Black Moth Super Rainbow's music contains elements of psychedelia, folk, electronica, pop and rock. Their distinctive sound is characterized by analog electronic instruments including the vocoder, Rhodes piano and Novatron.[2]A Graveface insert included inside the album Dandelion Gum describes them as such: "Deep in the woods of western Pennsylvania vocoders hum amongst the flowers and synths bubble under the leaf-strewn ground while flutes whistle in the wind and beats bounce to the soft drizzle of a warm acid rain. As the sun peeks out from between the clouds, the organic aural concoction of Black Moth Super Rainbow starts to glisten above the trees."
During the second half of tonight's show, we will feature Robert Rich's latest release What We Left Behind.
Across four decades and over 40 albums, Robert Rich has helped define
the genres of ambient music, dark-ambient, tribal and trance, yet his
music remains hard to categorize. Part of his unique sound comes from
using home-made acoustic and electronic instruments, microtonal
harmonies, computer-based signal processing, chaotic systems and
feedback networks. Rich began building his own analog synthesizers in
1976, when he was 13 years old, and later studied for a year at
Stanford’s Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA).
I dreamt of the earth after us,
As mountains erode and time helps the cities crumble.
So easy to think that the earth revolves around us,
That after us, the planet stops.
We who can change the weather.
When we make our world so inhospitable we can’t survive,
Life crawls blindly forward,
Consciousness revives, organisms organize.
Cells of the earth join together to create new minds.
Small lives build new worlds,
Cast a net across the surface and through layers below,
Constant construction, destruction, erosion, rebuilding.
After us, on a scaffolding of rust and ashes, salt and sand,
Digesting through it, stumbling numbly,
Vagabond life picks through the detritus and continues unconcerned.
Profligate Earth pays no mind to the foibles of her creation.
She scatters choices for those who can still choose.
