The Fifty Something tour is a concert tour by the Canadian rock band Rush. The tour began on June 7, 2026 in Inglewood, California, and is currently set to conclude in Helsinki, Finland on April 10, 2027.[1] It is Rush's first tour in 11 years, and their first live outing without drummer Neil Peart in 52 years, following his death in 2020,[2] with Anika Nilles filling in for him.[3] On February 23, 2026, Rush announced that Loren Gold would be the keyboardist for the tour, making it the first time the band has toured with more than three main musicians.[4][5]

The merits of the DiN releases Box of Secrets, Distant Rituals, Outpost, Art of Sacrifice and Blaze continue to be worth extolling, as the ideas they contain are remarkable and unique in history. Setting these titles as reference points, Ian Boddy has reconceived and reworked each to produce the five 30 minute experiments presented on DiN Reimagined Volume 1 (158:05). This impeccably crafted batch of reconstructions have been dropping periodically over the years, for people in the know (Boddy's Patreon subscribers), and are collected now in this first of a new series. Though all tracks are rooted in a previous DiN designation, Boddy sees the aforementioned albums as reference points - reconsidering the music and intentions of the earlier version, in a transformation of markedly different artistic outcomes. Suppressed beneath a midnight of softly burning dreams listeners delve into chill currents - to emerge beyond the control of known forces. In direct connection to lower levels of thought electronic textures and tones expend their force in an atmosphere of searching. Falling through darkness notes collide, collude and combine. Moments pass in a ramble of melody, a flight of timbre, a search of harmony. Chords, moving in contrary motion suggest a scene, create a mood - fashioning a world that may be real, but not representative of reality. Hallucinatory and fragmentary, these impressionistic aural images are the product of a particularly astute re-interpretation and refinement of the original recordings. Commanding a range of technologies and mechanisms Boddy has here realized a pentad of surreal, dreamlike sonic experiences - which manage to acknowledge their sources, while emphasizing a distinctive craftsmanship, inventiveness and personality. DiN Reimagined Volume 1 offers a sound collage that moves well within the painstakingly detailed shades and hues of Ambient Music. In such cerebral Spacemusic, even when challenged by dissonance we hear a unity in the arrangement - and what message it is trying to convey.

- Chuck van Zyl/STAR'S END   18 June 2026

As the core DiN label inexorably heads towards a century of releases, it’s worth looking back on a huge legacy of incredible releases. Label boss Ian Boddy has been producing some very special mixes of the early, deep back catalogue titles over the last couple of years. However, unlike the free-to-download DiN Mixes (of which there have been six so far), these are total reconstructions of the relevant albums. This method of working has involved Boddy using a number of techniques, including time-stretching, tape recorder pitch changes, granular engine manipulations, adding new effects such as reverb and echo, as well as accessing the original albums’ stems. Thus, they are not simple remixes using the original album tracks but rather a reconstruction of each release to produce a new piece of music. Indeed, Boddy has eschewed any references to rhythmic or sequenced material from the source tracks but has rather created a series of ambient soundscapes that each span 30 minutes or so. These open up new possibilities from the peacefully ambient to the weird and mysterious. Originally released exclusively via Boddy’s Patreon channel, this first volume collects five of these reimagined mixes as a Bandcamp digital download album.

Beckett were an English progressive rock band formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1970. The band released one self-titled album in April 1974 (produced by Roger Chapman, the former vocalist of Family) and disbanded shortly thereafter.[1] Original singer Rob Turner was killed in a car crash and replaced by Terry Wilson-Slesser, who would later go on to perform with Back Street Crawler and then Geordie whose previous front man Brian Johnson left to join AC/DC in 1980.

Review:

Beckett is simply one of the great lost Progressive Rock albums of the 1970s. These guys only did one album (Well officially that is. Beckett's Bassist Frankie Gibbon sent me an unreleased live album that's very very good.) but what an album it was. A Rainbow's Gold is simply one of the best songs on the 1970s overall. And Rolling Thunder is just amazing. It is a crying shame these guys never got the sales they deserved. But they did get a bit of recognition, due to Iron Maiden's excellent cover of A Rainbow's Gold as a B Side. Beckett's also notable for the fact that their Vocalist, the excellent Terry Wilson-Slesser later went on to sing for Paul Kossoff's Back Street Crawler.

Released in 1991, this was my second CD release on the Surreal to Real label. By this time, I was working for Akai, selling and demonstrating their studio sampling gear. This gave me access to some very nice instruments, and the MPC-60, much loved by the dance fraternity, features heavily in this album’s ultra-tight rhythm grooves. The opening trilogy of tracks (Drive, Ice Horizon, & Alchemy) became a mainstay for my concerts around this time. Two of the pieces feature the electronic wind instrument playing of Julian Maynard-Smith, with whom I briefly formed a trio called Hi-Q (along with David Berkeley). As with other albums from this era, the music is very much focused on melodic, tightly arranged compositions.

There are three bonus tracks from around the same time period, with Disconnect Me being a fun piece with a sampled voice I’m sure some of you will recognise. Both Prodigal & Crimekiller are unreleased demos for a couple of computer games I worked on in the early 1990s.

Tone Science Module No.10 The Final Patch (DiN:TS10)
Tone Science sub-label, from DiN records, concludes its exploration of the world of modular synth music.

Since the first volume in the Tone Science series was released in 2018, seventy-two musicians in total have joined in with this celebration of the musical possibilities of modular synthesis. These artists have been from a huge range of backgrounds but have all shared the unifying purpose of showcasing the incredible variety of sonic possibilities these instruments can offer.

The intervening seven years have seen the modular synth world expanding at an exponential rate and whilst one wouldn’t go so far as to say these synths are mainstream, they are certainly far more prevalent than in the past. It’s especially gratifying to see so many musicians now either play solo sets with them or to include them in their onstage arsenal.

Thus we come to this, the final instalment in the Tone Science series. Nothing lasts forever and certainly stopping at this nice round number of ten seems like a good way to not only end the series but to release the Final Patch, a real celebration of what has gone before and perhaps to hint at what is possible for the future. A beautifully packaged double CD featuring twenty artists who have appeared on previous iterations of the series, it really is a who’s who of modular synth musicians. The release is accompanied by an eight-page booklet with an essay by Neil Mason and some final words from the guiding force behind the whole project, Ian Boddy, label boss at DiN. And as Boddy so succinctly puts it in his liner notes, “for me, despite the technological nature of the equipment, the emotional quality of the music is the single most important factor”. The Final Patch certainly delivers on that ethos.

Norwegian ambient guitarist Erik WĆøllo has become a familiar name to followers of the DiN label as he has previously collaborated with label boss Ian Boddy on three studio albums as well as a couple of releases with Bernhard Wƶstheinrich. His other live release with Boddy was from their only concert together so far, “EC12” (DiNDDL16), from their performance at the Electronic Circus in Germany in 2012. That is, until April 2024, when the Capstone Theatre in Liverpool invited WĆøllo to perform alongside Boddy at what would be his UK debut.

During the evening at the Capstone each musician played solo sets and then combined on stage to play an electrifying hour long performance mining tracks from their previous two albums “Meridian” (DiN54) and “Revolve” (DiN73). It is this joint concert that forms their new release, “Transmissions” (DiN92). Taking the original pieces as their starting point the duo played reworked and extended versions of these tracks with WĆøllo getting the chance to play some wonderful guitar solos that take the music to a whole new level. Meanwhile Boddy used his Eurorack modular system to sculpt and mould the rhythmic sequencers and drums around Erik’s playing, as well as adding his distinctive French Connection Ondes style voicings. The main set was a continuous sonic journey through mystical soundscapes and rhythmic slices of Berlin School sequencing. The final encore track was a rendition of the track “Apogee” from the duos 2022 album “Revolve” (DiN73) with WĆøllo playing a blistering guitar solo over Boddy’s heavy, sequenced grooves.

This is a real treat for DiN aficionados and a perfect example of how two experienced musicians can take existing material and take it to new emotional heights in a live setting.

Extremely happy to share the latest interpretation of quiet details idea from a leading protagonist of widescreen dystopian electronica, Martin Jenkins, here as Pye Corner Audio.

Bandcamp link/code and private streaming link below, and please find the press release with the full details attached. Full release 14th May 2025.

From his first release, the Pye Corner Audio project stamped itself as a firm favourite - with releases on Further Records, Ghost Box, Sonic Cathedral, Boomkat Editions, Lapsus and many others - the perfect meeting of cinematic synth melodics, dusky atmospherics and drum machine workouts, carved out a niche all of its own.

Lake Deep Memory is Pye Corner Audio at its most beguiling and polychromatic - inspired by a trip to Lake Atitlan in Guatemala where he played a festival in 2024, you can feel the awe of the volcanic landscape in the vastness and ethereal soundscapes across the album.

It’s a place that’s spiritually important to the local people, and you can feel how some of this influence made its way into the music - there’s an intangible, almost ritualistic, sensation created by the organic nature of the instrumentation - light shifts to dark, pressure gives way to weightlessness.

The Pye Corner Audio trademark synth-mastery is fully present, combined with field recordings he took while experiencing this most sacred of places.
Together, they truly create a universe of powerful and emotive vistas - a beautiful place that has the potential to elicit endless imagery in the listeners’ mind’s-eye.

As he says:

I’ve always been inspired by the noises and submerged sounds that a lot of artists try to eradicate, such as noise, hums and hiss.
Those are the quiet details that I bring to the foreground.

From soaring passages of wondrous harmonic density, to highly textural and psychedelic movements - this is a completely immersive and mesmerising journey through metaphysical dreams - a stunning journey from a brilliantly talented and expressive artist.

Huge thanks to Martin for being part of the series.

The artwork was made as always influenced by the music and idea behind the album - originating from a photo from Martin (taken at Lake Atitlan) which was then captured with analogue photography and processed here at quiet details studios.

As usual, the album is presented on the physical edition, a custom six-panel digipack with a separate fine art print too.

The CD also has a special long-form continuous mix of the album, created by the artist and representing the music in its purest form.

Tone Science sub-label, from DiN records, continues to explore the world of modular synth music.

Following the success and critical acclaim of the first eight Tone Science compilation albums,
DiN label boss Ian Boddy has collated another nine tracks from musicians of varying backgrounds working in the realms of modular synthesis.

As the Tone Science journey continues it never ceases to amaze just how varied and individualistic each musicians work can be. Whilst the hardware is technologically based each artist teases out a reflection of their own musical personality.

This volume kicks off with two pointillistic compositions from Loula Yorke and State Azure with intertwining sequencer patterns flowing and coiling around to create ever changing soundscapes.

After this energetic start the next pair of tracks from Theda Electronic Music and Swansither enter calmer, ambient territory where careful sculpting of synthesiser voices creates room for expression and atmosphere.

The mid-point of the album sees Sulk Rooms take us into darker territory with a drone based piece that slowly climbs from the undergrowth like some great creature arising from its slumber.

The next three tracks from Tomorrow The Cure, JacqNoise and Alex Ball are rhythmically based and showcase just how different the feel and energy of music made with modular synths can be with pure tones, deep bass and transient blips respectively.

Finally Michael J. York leads us gently into the distance with a beautiful, shimmering cocoon of blissful sound to close out the album.

“Tone Science Module No.9 Theories and Conjectures” continues the journey down the rabbit hole of possibilities and sound worlds inhabited by artists and musicians working in this ever fascinating and varied musical field.

Review by David Randall

Classical rock is an often maligned genre, when done well it can bring new dimension to time-worn classics, done badly and it can fail to enhance the originals.

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra have always done it better than most, and in recent times they’ve orchestrated Queen and Fleetwood Mac and – even further back – the music of Pink Floyd and – where it all started – Deep Purple in 1969.  I suppose it all comes down to the arrangements and the interpretation.

Having well known rock musicians as “soloists” (and in one example the original artist) stops any over-egging or extravagance and a core rhythm section including the Cottle brothers – Laurence and Richard – at least keeps the foundations rocking.  They are particularly impressive on ‘Watcher Of The Skies’ and it’s perhaps a little surprising that Steve Hackett is conspicuous by his absence.

Amongst the guests,  Ian Bairnson stands in for David Gilmour on ‘Comfortably Numb’ whilst one-time mediaeval rocker Richard Harvey (Gryphon) excels on ‘Thick As A Brick’.

The heaviest almost big band diversion is King Crimson’s ‘21st Century Schizoid Man’ which features Gavin Harrison and the fusion guitar of Guthrie Govan.  Iron Maiden’s Adrian Smith is featured on Rush’s ‘Red Barchetta’.

Elsewhere, as you might expect, this is a production job of widescreen proportions, especially evidenced on ‘Think Of Me With Kindness’ the lesser-known Gentle Giant song (from ‘Octopus’ in 1972) that now comes across as Vaughan Williams mixed with Big Country (the movie theme not the band).  Yes’ ‘Roundabout’ (featuring the late Jimmy Greenspoon on keyboards) sounds like it could have been a Bond theme.  Of course this treatment may not appeal to all tastes but it is very well done.

Hopefully this will be the start of a series (there’s also a “More Symphonic Rock” album released in May although not on the same label).  It demonstrates that in amongst prog rock there was always a damn good classical musician trying to get out, and an even more durable tune.  ****

The Modulations series is a way for DiN label boss Ian Boddy to showcase his many, varied modular synth concerts and events. The first two released in 2020 & 2021 were released in digital format on the DiNDDL series as well as limited vinyl pressings in conjunction with Greek label Kinetik Records. However all live events came to a sudden end with the Covid pandemic and Boddy like the majority of musicians had to postpone any further Iive shows until this health crisis dissipated.

Resuming toward the end of 2021 Modulations III spans just over three hours of Boddy’s recent modular synth events with concerts in Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool. There are also tracks from an art exhibition opening, an outdoor performance and an exclusive track for the Werra Foxma label magazine.

The core of the instrumentation in these tracks are Boddy’s mobile Eurorack cases but this was bolstered by gear from Buchla, Serge and Moog as well as an array of pedals and effects and with the Liverpool concert his beautiful French Connection Ondes Martenot style keyboard.

As ever Boddy builds audio landscapes that organically build, drift and vanish into the ether. Analogue bass lines grow and act as a bedrock for a myriad of scintillating higher register sequencer parts. Mysterious atmospheres evolve and mutate with graceful beauty. Soft focus orchestral string sections emerge from dark spaces and bring light and calm to the music. The audience is taken on a journey which follows a different path on every performance.

A listening guide detailing each track and its associated release alongside exclusive photos accompanies the Bandcamp download.

Tone Science sub-label, from DiN records, continues to explore the world of modular synth music with Tone Science Module No.7: Cause and Effect.

Following the success and critical acclaim of the first six Tone Science compilation albums,
DiN label boss Ian Boddy has collated another nine tracks from musicians of varying backgrounds working in the realms of modular synthesis.

One of the things that is so delightful about artists working with modular synthesisers is the sheer variety of styles on show. These instruments more than any other can be personalised for each musician who can then express themselves within their own sonic world.

This volume starts with a pair of beautiful, texturally detailed sequenced tracks “Abalone Vortex”
by Andrea Cichecki and “Tempestarius” by Chris Meyer which form a natural pairing that create a melodic, calm opening.

“Dim Rill” by Rodent enters a more mysterious zone with mesmerising bell like tones that bounce around in the stereo field before yielding to the rising harmonic motif of “Flutter” from Dark Sparkler that promises resolution but ultimately falls back into mystery.

The mid-point of this volume sees Blakmoth take the music sonically into a very deep, dark place with a huge slab of dread that is “Of Ash And Sorrow”. Counterbalancing the first four tracks it sets up the audio space for the remainder of the album.

The next three pieces see a more heavily sequenced space emerge with definite echoes of the Berlin School ethos that was instrumental in inspiring so many modular synth artists. No more so than on “Pareidolia” by Brendan Pollard with its groaning, spring reverb clatter in its opening that gradually coalesces into a throbbing analogue bass line. “Hecataea” by Andrew Ostler and
“A Hopeless Momentum” by James Cigler complete this trio of sequenced tracks with varying layers of complexity and harmonic exploration.

The album floats away into space as it closes with the track “Near Earth” by Jon Palmer. Inspired by the weird and wonderful abstract sounds on the long wave radio band this impressionistic soundscape fades to an eerie signal mournfully calling in the void.

“Tone Science Module No.7 Cause and Effect” continues the journey down the rabbit hole of possibilities and sound worlds inhabited by artists and musicians working in this ever fascinating and varied musical field.

Ƅlgarnas TrƤdgĆ„rd were a psychedelic and progressive rock band from Sweden[1] which is found on the Nurse With Wound list.

In 1972, they released Framtiden Ƥr ett svƤvande skepp, fƶrankrat i forntiden. More recently, in 2001, archived recordings from 1974 were released under the album title Delayed

Ƅlgarnas TrƤdgĆ„rd biography
Founded in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1969 - Disbanded in 1976

ƄLGARNAS TRƄDGƅRD are a seminal, 6-piece Swedish combo who made one album in 1972, a cult classic and masterpiece of psychedelia that could have come straight out of the 'Kraut' school of Space Rock. After the release of their album, they kept on playing live for a while, even recording a full album's worth of new material in 1973-74. But it wasn't until 2001 that this material was mixed and released, on a cd entitled "Delayed".

Their 1972 classic, "Framtiden ar ett Svavande Skepp, Forankrat I Forntiden", is a veritable testimony to the halcyon days of hippiedom - a time when grown men, like children playing with forbidden colours, were popping hallucinogenic bonbons and experimenting with psychedelic sounds in their quest for mind-expanding adventures and altered states of consciousness. However, ƄLGARNAS TRƄDGƅRD's music never lapses into drugged-out silliness or aimless noodling. It ranges from earnest, to Medieval, to completely creepy - a sort of 'RIO meets folk'. They concoct some earthly (and unearthly) sounds using a combination of traditional, modern rock instruments and ethnic/archaic ones, the result being a spectacular blend of slow-smoking psychedelia with a strong vernacular Swedish folk bent. Their guitar-based, trance-like music is reminiscent of ASH RA TEMPEL; it also shares GONG's organic mayhem and the hypnotic qualities of early TANGERINE DREAM. If you can imagine a Nordic version of AMON DƜƜL II or ASH RA TEMPEL, you'll have a pretty good idea of what they sound like. The 2001 cd "Delayed", which makes heavier use of drums and guitars, is yet another marvellously atmospheric and creative mixture of prog and psychedelia.

Highly recommended for Krautrock aficionados as well as for fans of CAN and PINK FLOYD, circa "Ummagumma".

Surface 10 is the moniker of Californian electronic musician Dean De Benedictus. He has previously released albums on the DiN label with In Vitro Tide (DiN8) & Surface Tensions (DiN24). Finishing a hiatus of over a decade, which saw him pursuing several film projects, he returns to DiN with a stunningly original new album, “A Stray Ending” (DiN77).

The DiN label has always actively encouraged the blurring of genre boundaries and with this new opus Dean has certainly done that with influences as far flung as Electronica, Ambient, IDM, Berlin School, Glitch, Progressive Jazz Fusion, World and Cinematic music. Such a heady mixture is immediately apparent on the opener “Neverheart” with its achingly beautiful and haunting chordal themes overlaid with an intertwining tapestry of percussion and glitched out effects. The album rises and falls through layers of dazzling sound design and compositional complexity to reach its apex with the freak-out intensity of “Azz”. The following track “Dorothy Spearhead” is perhaps the most concise piece on show here, with its vocal melodic hook and danceable drum groove. This leads into the spectacular “Non Fi” which propels the listener on an epic tour de force of electronic invention before the album closes with the melancholic shimmering beauty of “Universal Winter (Rework)”.

This new album from Surface 10 is almost beyond categorisation and is full of so many inventive and detailed sonic and musical elements that it will give the listener something new to focus in on each and every listen. Another truly unique addition to the DiN catalogue.

 Listener Reviews:

dbssll Quite a varied release - from ambient drone to more rhythmic tracks full of electronic details. The more rhythmic tracks vary in mood from light almost pastoral to dark bordering on the industrial occasionally. A distinctive voice that will repay detailed listening.

selfoscillate This is a really captivating and varied Album, almost like a cinematic soundtrack. It is a melting pot of different moods and styles, dark at times, but also with moments of hope. It brings Ambient, Drone and elements of IDM together nicely, with lots of details that encourage repeated listens. Another great effort by the master of modular synths. Well done, Bakis. Favorite track: Spectral.
